Georges Prevelakis, was born in Athens, with origins from Crete. He studied Architecture in Athens and did his postgraduate studies on Urban planning and Geography in Paris (Sorbonne). He worked as an urban planner in Greece and taught at Greek universities. In 1984, he moved to Paris and became an academic. He specializes in the geopolitics of Europe, Balkans and Eastern Europe, geopolitics of diasporas and in spatial planning. He has been a professor and a researcher in France, the USA and the UK. He is professor (emeritus) of the Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) university. He has been the director of Constantine G. Karamanlis Chair in Hellenic and European Studies at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (2003-2005). He is Ambassador, permanent representative of Greece to the OECD.
