Yannis Vergioglou is a PhD candidate in the European Politics Research Group of ETH Zurich since September 2019. He obtained a Master’s Degree from ETH Zurich with the support of ETH Foundation full excellence scholarship (ESOP). Prior to joining ETH, he studied political science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and European politics at Maastricht University. During his undergraduate studies he worked at the European Green Partly Headquarters in Brussels and the Directorate General for Development programming in Central Greece. His main research project focuses on electoral and attitudinal effects of public policy with emphasis on natural experiments and causal inference methods. Since 2020 he has also been the graduate teaching assistant at the migration policy lab of ETH, conducting tutorials on Machine learning and Causal Inference methods for social science.

Andrew Anderson was appointed Executive Director of Front Line Defenders (https://www.frontlinedefenders.org) in November 2016. He previously served as Deputy Director since March 2003. Front Line Defenders was founded in Dublin in 2001 with the specific aim of protecting human rights defenders at risk (HRDs), people who work, non-violently, for any or all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Front Line Defenders addresses the protection needs identified by HRDs themselves and was awarded the UN Prize for Human Rights in 2018. Prior to joining Front Line Defenders, Andrew worked at the International Secretariat of Amnesty International as Director of the Campaigning and Crisis Response Programme and then Director of the Africa Programme. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Applied Human Rights at the University of York, the Board of Trustees of the Tactical Technology Collective and the Board of Trustees of the Sudan Social Development Organisation UK. He represents Front Line Defenders on the Board of the EU Human Rights Defenders Mechanism.

Andreas Gaarder is a Norwegian diplomat. He is currently Director general at the Department of Financial and Human Resources the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has studied economics at the university of Oslo, where he also received an MA in economics, and holds an MSc in political economy from the LSE. He joined the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990. He has served as a Norwegian diplomat in various positions in Cairo, Geneva, Paris and Stockholm, as a Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy to Berlin (2004 – 2008) and as Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union (2014 – 2018).

Mr. Christos Stylianides has served as European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management (2014-19) and was also the EU Ebola Coordinator. From these positions he made a significant contribution to strengthening the EU’s role as a global ‘soft power’.
Today he is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics (LSE), an academic member at the Medical School of the University of Nicosia-Cyprus and a Visiting Professor at the Ruhr Universität Bochum (RUB) Research School in Germany. He is also an advisor of Commission Vice-President M. Schoinas on training in crisis areas, as well as on migration and integration.
He was elected as a MEP in the May 2014 European elections. He was twice appointed Government spokesperson of Cyprus (2013-2014 and 1998-1999). Between 2006 and 2013 he served as a member of the Cyprus House of Representatives (elected in 2006 and 2011). Between 2006 and 2011 he was a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and a member of its Bureau in 2012. He has been declared “Global Champion for Education in Emergencies” by the international organization Education Cannot Wait (ECW) and “Political Champion for Education in Emergencies” by the Malala Foundation for its dedication and contribution to education in crisis areas.

Georges Prevelakis, was born in Athens, with origins from Crete. He studied Architecture in Athens and did his postgraduate studies on Urban planning and Geography in Paris (Sorbonne). He worked as an urban planner in Greece and taught at Greek universities. In 1984, he moved to Paris and became an academic. He specializes in the geopolitics of Europe, Balkans and Eastern Europe, geopolitics of diasporas and in spatial planning. He has been a professor and a researcher in France, the USA and the UK. He is professor (emeritus) of the Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) university. He has been the director of Constantine G. Karamanlis Chair in Hellenic and European Studies at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (2003-2005). He is Ambassador, permanent representative of Greece to the OECD.

Petros Kokkalis is a businessman and Greek sports manager. He studied Modern History at Hampshire University and held postgraduate studies in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is the co-founder and secretary, since 2009, of the Greek environmental NGO Organization Earth, , with remarkable work in environmental awareness and education.

Alexandros Papaioannou studied International Relations at the London School of Economics and has a master’s degree in European Politics and Administration from the College of Europe. He is a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has served in the Embassies of Rome, Moscow, the Holy See, Tunis, as well as in the Permanent Representation to the European Union. He also worked in the offices of the Minister of Foreign Affairs George A. Papandreou, the Deputy Minister of International Economic Affairs and Development Assistance, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and as a diplomatic adviser to Mr. Giorgos Koumoutsakos, Deputy Minister for Migration. He has worked for many years as a Policy Advisor in the Policy Planning Unit in the Office of the NATO Secretary General and then in the NATO’s Directorate of Political Affairs and Security Policy, where he was primarily involved in relations with the EU. Since October 2020 he is a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kalliopi Stefanaki is Head of legal protection in the Refugee Protection Unit – UNHCR Greece. She studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed her postgraduate studies in Public International Law at the University of Paris II. She is a lawyer and has been working in the fields of human rights and refugee rights since 1998. She served in the Greek Ombudsman’s Office, in the Human Rights Department. In addition, she has worked with the European Commission and the European Parliament office in Paris.
